Recreational vehicles produced in China for China

The Erwin Hymer Group founded a joint venture with the Chinese manufacturer Loncen and has thereby taken the first step into a new market with tremendous growth potential. Another milestone that provides unique recreational and mobility experiences for customers worldwide.

The worldwide demand for motorhomes, caravans and campervans is on the rise. Especially the Chinese market offers enormous opportunities for growth. According to estimates by experts, the Chinese market volume will grow up to 22 billion euros by the year 2020. The Erwin Hymer Group has established a joint venture with the Chinese Lingyu Group in order to realise these potentials and further strengthen its position.

The joint venture Luoyang Erwin Hymer-Loncen Caravan Co. LTD will prospectively produce motorhomes and caravans in and for China from the product range of both partners. Joint venture partner Lingyu – located in Luoyang City, a city of seven million people in the Henan province – is currently producing six caravan models under the brand Loncen.

China is the largest market worldwide for almost all mobility segments – but not yet in the area of recreational vehicles. Ten years ago, there were only about 3,000 motorhomes and caravans in use in the most populous country on earth. Currently, there are approximately 70,000 operational recreational vehicles in China. In fact, China is a sleeping giant with respect to its enormous untapped potential.

The first promising measures have already been initiated. The Chinese government is advancing the construction of campsites and working to remove obstacles such as driving license regulations that restrict driving with a trailer.

quotas It is only a matter of time before China also becomes the world market leader in the area of recreational vehicles. From the very beginning, Loncen has been a strong partner, which has allowed us to advance our internationalisation strategy – so that we can offer unique recreational and mobility experiences for customers worldwide.
