Erwin Hymer Group in Nowa Sól: Aid supplies instead of mobile homes

Nowa Sól/Bad Waldsee, 22 March 2022 – The Erwin Hymer Group (EHG), together with parent company THOR Industries, is to provide logistical aid assistance for the influx of refugees from Ukraine: the recently acquired production site in Nowa Sól, Poland, which is currently still under construction, will be used in the short term as a logistics hub for relief supplies. Background: In October 2021, EHG decided to acquire another production facility to create additional manufacturing capacity. The first camper vans were due to leave the factory by early 2024 at the latest. But the crisis in Ukraine led to a spontaneous decision to help improve the humanitarian situation.

The conversion work in Nowa Sól, which will create additional capacity for the booming camper van sector in Europe, was originally supposed to start in the spring. But the start of the war at the end of February completely changed the global situation. Within a few days, the Erwin Hymer Group, led by COO Jan Francke, together with Wadim Tyszkiewicz, the Mayor of Nowa Sól, the local Red Cross and Trevor Gasper, Senior Vice President and General Counsel of the EHG parent company THOR Industries, developed a concept in which the future production hall could be efficiently used for relief supplies logistics. In addition, the group spontaneously provided 25,000 euros to purchase necessary refrigeration for food and a basic contingent of urgently needed aids – from hygiene articles and baby food to sleeping bags and mattresses.

Currently, the majority of Ukrainian refugees – mostly mothers with children – are staying in private accommodation. The future EHG production facility in Nowa Sól is now available at short notice to supply them with essentials. If the number of refugees continues to rise, the hall could also serve as emergency accommodation.

Martin Brandt, CEO of the Erwin Hymer Group: “With the first images from the regions affected by the war, we felt the need to improve the humanitarian situation for people who have fled Ukraine. We are happy to be able to support the Polish authorities and aid organizations in this emergency situation with our hall, which is currently being renovated. Working with the local people in Nowa Sól is wonderful.”
